Lightning or Cybertruck: the short answer

Investigate a Lightning when a specific used or remaining-stock full-size pickup meets your equipment, condition and price requirements. Investigate a Cybertruck when its cargo arrangement and operating controls suit you after an in-person demonstration. The deciding evidence is the actual vehicle and the job it must do; this is not a driving-test verdict or a claim that one model wins for everyone.

Our examples are the 2025 F-150 Lightning Flash Extended Range and the 2026 Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD EPA configuration. The Lightning is the documented 123 kWh Flash, not every Extended Range truck. The Cybertruck is not a Premium AWD or Cyberbeast. Current Tesla manual pages cover multiple versions, so verify which hardware and features belong to the candidate you find.

Fields unavailable for every selection are omitted; individual gaps are marked. Range cells show their rating basis. Maximum towing requires the stated equipment; it is not the rating of every vehicle in a trim. MSRP/list prices are dated U.S. base prices before destination, taxes, fees, options, and incentives; see each price’s publication date and notes.

  • This is an EPA configuration label, which may cover multiple retail trims. Wheel, tire, and equipment differences matter. A record does not confirm current retail availability.

Range and price: what this exact comparison establishes

The selected Lightning carries a 300-mile manufacturer-reported EPA estimate; the Cybertruck EPA record is rated at 325 miles. That 25-mile rated difference is a starting reference, not a measured highway, winter or towing advantage. Compare the same departure charge and arrival reserve, then check compatible stops for the route you repeat.

The dated base-price records are $69,995 for the Lightning and $74,990 for the Cybertruck, with dates and exclusions attached below. They are not current dealer quotes or used values. Ford says the battery-electric Lightning is no longer available in its current form. Separate its used and remaining-stock market from a new factory order, and price missing equipment rather than assuming it accompanies a used truck.

Towing and cargo: check the fitted truck

The Lightning maximum requires Max Trailer Tow. Tesla’s manual rates Dual Motor AWD at 7,500 lb with either listed wheel size and a 750 lb maximum tongue weight. Its Premium AWD and Cyberbeast figures do not apply. Verify loading labels, passengers, cargo and hitch equipment before choosing either truck for a loaded trailer.

Bring the objects you carry most often, or their measurements, to inspect the bed, frunk, tie-down access and covered storage. Demonstrate the fitted outlets and cargo-cover operation under the applicable manual. Compare loading with the cover open and closed, passenger space, visibility and the controls you will use while parked before committing to a design based on photographs.

Charging and the buying decision

Native connector shape alone does not settle charging convenience. Check the exact inlet, approved adapters and network-compatible locations for each candidate. Tesla distinguishes sites with different access rules; do not assume every Supercharger works with every truck. For towing, verify stall access and whether an allowed place to unhitch exists.

Use the two buying guides to check recalls, remaining coverage, charging equipment and ownership handover. Then compare actual prices, insurance quotes, tires and your home/public charging mix in the ownership calculator. A documented, inspected vehicle that fits your routine is the stronger shortlist choice than an unsupported claim about brand reliability or universal charging speed.
